The pants that started it all... During quarantine I, like many, experienced a life shattering loss and needed a project to maintain my sanity. For reasons that would sound too crazy to share here I decided I needed to make pants. I started looking into local fair wage manufacturers while reevaluating my life as a whole. After nearly a decade of wanting to volunteer at a camp for people with disabilities in Guatemala but never having the time, I decided there was no time like the present. At the camp I was paired with Francis, a  funny, brilliant, and kind young man with Muscular Dystrophy whose father Francisco is a tailor who specializes in pants. Everything changed! I realized the life-changing impact we could have on this family directly by paying them Los Angeles fair wage. Francis and his family are the catalyst that helped create the mission for Humo y Espejos; collaborate with talented, deserving, and disenfranchised artisans making beautiful quality products and give them a bunch of money!

The pants are made with 100% vegetable dyed and hand woven cotton that is produced by Claudia who has a small family fabric business in Guatemala City. The semi-precious stones on the drawstring come from Henri whose family has had a small kiosk in the Mercado de Artesanias in Antigua, Guatemala for generations. Finally the pants are constructed by Francisco and Julieta in their home in San Pedro Las Huertas, a small village outside of Antigua. Your purchase allows us to continue our mission.
